What's the most important part of your retirement planning? Investing. Without the wonderful benefits of compounding interest, it would be very hard to achieve your financial goals, in retirement or anything else.

In order to achieve your retirement goals, you will obviously need to think more long term investing. Quite simply, most investors today are simply out for the quick profit, without any consideration at all to long term income and profits.

That’s why you see so many investors jump on the bandwagon of a stock that’s going up, and immediately sell out as soon as it starts going down a little. This is not a long term winning strategy; it is more akin to gambling.

Whenever you are investing, whether it’s for retirement or earlier, you need to do so with the plan of looking at a company’s financial statements, and only investing if the company is on solid financial ground.

The vast majority of investors have no idea how to even read a financial statement, and they make their investments on a purely speculative basis, without even considering the finances behind a company’s stock price.

A great example of this would be the dot.com era. Many of these internet based companies were losing money by the fistful each and every day, yet people continued investing tons of money into them just because there stock prices were going up, even though there were no profits.

Always remember this: short term, the market is a voting machine. Whoever everybody invests in will go up, irrespective of how they are actually doing monetarily.

However, long tem the market always values a company according to how profitable it is. Therefore, before investing your money in any stock, make absolutely sure there are profits behind it. if not, go elsewhere.

So what does this investing have to do with retirement planning? Everything. If you know how to speak money terms and spot good investments, you have a huge advantage over 99% of investors in the market today. Learn to read a companies financial statement, invest for the long term, and you will live a long and profitable retirement.
